Albania’s First Official Show Featuring Audio Description

The “ArtNexus” project, partially implemented by UNAA, developed on December 22, 2023 one of the most special activities of the program.

In collaboration with the National Theater of Opera and Ballet, visually impaired individuals were the special guests at the premiere of Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker. Before the show, a tour familiarized the followers with the story and the production’s costumes. Kristi Çina, president of UNAA, emphasized the importance of comprehensive initiatives in art.

The premiere featured live voice description by speaker Genti Mumajesi, bringing the performance to life for visually impaired individuals. This marks the first time in Albanian spectacle that a ballet is presented with audio description.

About 60 visually impaired individuals joined through an open invitation. The premiere stands out as the success of the Masterclass on audio description developed in October 2023 with experts. This practice opens the door to alternative forms of art communication for vulnerable groups.
