Breaking Cultural Barriers: UNAA and National Theatre of Opera and Ballet Partner to Include Audio Description

The United Nations Association Albania (UNAA), through its ArtNexus project, forged a partnership with the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet (TKOBAP) to make opera and ballet accessible to visually impaired audiences.

On November 2nd, a memorandum of cooperation was signed, marking a historic milestone. The Nutcracker ballet was the first showcased in this inclusive format, with five full performances slated to include audio descriptions.

Abigeila Voshtina, General Director of TKOBAP, affirmed that staff training by UNAA is ongoing to expand the repertoire. The signing followed a masterclass on audio description led by expert Peter Lilliecrona on October 3–4, which prepared Albanian cultural professionals for this innovative venture.
