Roundtable on Funding Mechanisms and Financial Support for the Visual Arts in Albania
By United Nations Association Albania · 29 March 2024
The roundtable on the policy paper “Funding Mechanisms and Resources for the Visual Arts in Albania” was held on March 29, 2024, at Tulla Culture Center, moderated by Donika Çina. Researchers Pavjo Gjini and Çelik Rruplli presented their findings.
Participants included cultural agents, artists, researchers, journalists and curators. The panel featured Deputy Minister of MEKI Mrs. Lira Pipa; Marubi Museum director Mr. Lucian Bedeni; British Council Western Balkans director Mrs. Majlinda Mazelliu; and Swiss Cultural Fund representative Mr. Kleidi Eski.
Main recommendations: continuous dialogue between artists and institutions; proactive transparency; a national registry for artists; a dedicated visual arts fund; a law on artist status; creation of a Center for Arts and Culture Research.
The arms length principle from Britain and Scandinavia was raised as a model to protect artists’ freedom of expression through expert collegiums rather than politically appointed evaluators.
