The Urgent Artist Toolkit – From Workshop to Atelier

The Urgent Artist Toolkit is a project curated and implemented by Destil Creative Hub with Bulevard Art and Media Institute. Aiming to support young emerging artists in Albania, a series of workshops was set into motion in summer 2023.

The overall theme is the relationship between art and education through a contemporary and historical lens. The purpose was to empower young artists and outline the urgencies and difficulties they face in pursuing their careers, and give them specialized training built on previous research regarding their needs.

An important aspect was decentralization – each workshop was held in a different city (Tirana, Shkodra, Fier), engaging with local actors to develop a wider ecosystem of cultural life outside Tirana.

The team consisted of Sonila Abdalli (Destil Creative Hub), Valentina Bonizzi (Boulevard Art and Media Institute), Stefano Romano (Mobile School of Visual Art), and Matilda Odobashi (MINUS).

In Tirana, discussions centred on the importance of listening to young artists’ needs. In Shkodra at Art House, participants expressed a greater need for tools for understanding and expressing their artistic research. In Fier, the workshop took place at the Vilson Kilica art gallery.
