Our Story
The Albanian Visual Arts Network (AVAN) was formed in the spring of 2024, as the necessity to self-organize and represent the dynamic local art scene towards a regional and international audience increasingly became a priority. The Network was born with the purpose of becoming the leading platform for providing Albanian independent art institutions and local self-managed galleries, a united voice towards audiences and policy-makers, while nurturing a constellation of spaces which will allow the practices of emerging and established artists to flourish.
The Albanian Visual Arts Network (AVAN) was founded during the Vlora Art Meeting 2024 by key stakeholders of the visual arts scene of Albania on 25 of May 2024. The network understands itself as a union of entities with diverse approaches but that share the same interest of operating and addressing their urgencies with the language of visual arts. AVAN works to ensure transparency within the network and in relations with institutions, to encourage artistic research, critical thinking and freedom of expression.
Membership
╱ New members can be accepted into the network by expressing their interest directly, and their acceptance will be voted on at the General Assembly of all members, taking place either at Tirana Art Weekend, or Vlora Art Meeting, on a twice a year schedule.

What we do
╱ The main aim of AVAN is to strengthen the contemporary art scene in Albania by gathering the scene to create an inspirational, collective framework which fosters collaboration and unity in future endeavours.
╱ AVAN advocates for sustainable funding and better working conditions for contemporary visual arts organizations.
Our values
╱ AVAN works to ensure transparency within the network and in relations with institutions, to encourage artistic research, critical thinking and freedom of expression.
╱ AVAN is open to all formal and informal contemporary art organizations operating in Albania.
╱ The network works in solidarity with visual artists in Albania.

Art House
🇪🇺 Art House is a foundation operating in Shkodër since 2015, transforming the private home into a welcoming space for exchange and discussion on contemporary art. Conceived as a bridge between the intimate and the public, the local and the international, it promotes dialogue across generations through exhibitions, screenings, workshops, and publications. Main programs include Ekrani i Artit festival, Art House School residency and the bulëzat series.
🇦🇱 Art House është një fondacion që zhvillon aktivitetin e tij në Shkodër që prej vitit 2015, duke e transformuar hapësirën private të shtëpisë në një vend mikpritës për shkëmbim dhe diskutim mbi artin bashkëkohor. I konceptuar si një urë mes intimes dhe publikes, lokales dhe ndërkombtares, ai nxit dialogun ndërmjet brezave përmes ekspozitave, projeksioneve, punëtorive dhe botimeve. Programet kryesore përfshijnë festivalin Ekrani i Artit, rezidencën Art House School dhe serinë bulëzat.
Art Kontakt
🇪🇺 Art Kontakt is an Albanian organisation that aimed at promoting contemporary art and fostering cross-cultural artistic exchange. Originating in the early 2000s, particularly active in Albania and Venice, Italy, Art Kontakt has grown to include international collaborations involving artists, curators, and institutions across Europe and beyond.

E krijuar në fillim të viteve 2000, me aktivitet të veçantë në Shqipëri dhe në Venecia – Itali, Art Kontakt është zhvilluar duke përfshirë bashkëpunime ndërkombëtare me artistë, kuratorë dhe institucione nga Europa dhe më gjerë.
Bazament Art Space
🇪🇺 Bazament is an art space dedicated to contemporary art in Tirana, Albania founded in 2016. Its main focus is to create an independent and sustainable contemporary art scene, by offering a new exhibition space where narratives and the discourse of Albanian contemporary art, can be shown and discussed, in close relationship to the international contemporary art scene. Bazament functions as a project space focusing on production of exhibitions projects and also on the discourse of Contemporary art by organizing talks, screenings, publications in collaboration with both local and international artists, curators and different independent and institutional actors of the field.

Fokusi kryesor i Bazamentiti është prodhimi i projekteve të reja ekspozuese dhe gjithashtu në krijimin e diskursit të Artit Bashkëkohor përmes bisedave, shfaqjeve dhe publikimeve. Duke bashkëpunuar me artistë, kuratorë vendas e ndërkombëtarë, si dhe aktorë të ndryshëm të pavarur, e institucionalë të fushës, fokusi i tij kryesor është krijimi i një skene të pavarur dhe të qëndrueshme të artit bashkëkohor, duke ofruar një hapësirë të re ekspozuese ku narrativat dhe diskursi i artit bashkëkohor shqiptar, mund të tregohen dhe diskutohen, në lidhje të ngushtë me skenën ndërkombëtare.

Galeria e Bregdetit
🇪🇺 Galeria e Bregdetit is a contemporary exhibition and research center which runs its program during the tourist season of the Albanian Riviera. The gallery aims to use contemporary art and research-based projects to investigate the invisible links that are shaping and transforming the coastal territory. In the last seven seasons since its inception, the gallery has affirmed itself as a prominent voice in the growing contemporary art ecosystem of the country, creating a distinctive voice which proudly represents the Albanian Seaside South in the international art scene.
🇦🇱 Galeria e Bregdetit është një hapësirë ekspozimi dhe hulumtimi që zhvillon programin e saj gjatë sezonit turistik të Rivierës Shqiptare. Galeria synon të përdorë artin bashkëkohor dhe projekte kërkimore për të investiguar lidhjet e padukshme që po formësojnë dhe transformojnë territorin bregdetar. Në shtatë sezonet e fundit që nga fillimi i saj në 2019, galeria është afirmuar si një zë i spikatur në ekosistemin e artit bashkëkohor të vendit, duke krijuar një zë të veçantë që përfaqëson me krenari Jugun Bregdetar të Shqipërisë në skenën ndërkombëtare të artit.
Satellite Zone
🇪🇺 Satellite Zone is a nomadic art platform founded in 2023 in Tirana, supporting young and emerging artists through opportunities to explore, experiment, and exhibit their work. Since its founding, it has united 23 artists, organized 8 exhibitions, and built collaborations with Sweden, Germany, and Austria. Co-founded by Kristanja Çene, Inda Sela, and Resina Meçani, it fosters experimentation, dialogue, and artistic growth.
🇦🇱 Satellite Zone është një platformë nomade arti, e themeluar në vitin 2023 në Tiranë, që mbështet artistët e rinj dhe në zhvillim duke u ofruar mundësi për të eksploruar, eksperimentuar dhe ekspozuar veprat e tyre. Që nga themelimi, ka bashkuar 23 artistë, ka organizuar 8 ekspozita dhe ka ndërtuar bashkëpunime me Suedinë, Gjermaninë dhe Austrinë. E bashkëthemeluar nga Kristanja Çene, Inda Sela dhe Resina Meçani, ajo nxit dialogun dhe rritjen artistike.
Tirana Art Lab
🇪🇺 Tirana Art Lab – Center for Contemporary Art, founded in 2010, works with emerging and established artists from Albania and Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. Focused on research and process, it produces exhibitions, residencies, workshops, and publications that foster critical reflection. TAL organizes projects addressing artistic, cultural, and social issues, emphasizing art in public space and women artists. In 2023, it launched the educational program Curating with Care.
🇦🇱 Tirana Art Lab – Qendra për Artin Bashkëkohor, themeluar në vitin 2010, punon me artistë të rinj dhe të afirmuar nga Shqipëria dhe Evropa Qendrore, Lindore dhe Juglindore. E fokusuar në kërkim dhe proces, TAL realizon ekspozita, rezidenca, punëtori dhe botime që nxisin reflektimin kritik. TAL organizon projekte që trajtojnë çështje artistike, kulturore dhe shoqërore, me theks te arti në hapësirën publike dhe artistet gra. Në vitin 2023, TAL nisi programin edukativ Curating with Care.

Albanian Cinematheque
🇪🇺 The Albanian Cinematheque is a cultural institution dedicated to the preservation, restoration and promotion of Albania’s rich cinematic universe. Through archival analysis, film restorations and curated screenings, it serves as a vital platform for the rediscovery of Albanian cinema, past and present. The Albanian Cinematheque showcases works by pioneering filmmakers, rare archival footage and experimental films, fostering dialogue about the history of Albanian cinema and its place at the dawn of film. Committed to education and outreach, the institution also organizes seminars, discussions and retrospectives with younger generations of filmmakers and the public.

Nëpërmjet hulumtimeve arkivore, restaurimeve filmike dhe shfaqjeve të kuruara, ajo shërben si një platformë jetike për rizbulimin e kinemasë së dikurshme dhe asaj bashkëkohore shqiptare. Albanian Cinematheque shfaq vepra nga kineastë pionierë, pamje të rralla arkivore dhe filma eksperimentalë,duke nxitur dialogun rreth trashëgimisë kinematografike të Shqipërisë dhe vendin e saj në historinë botërore të filmit. 🇪🇺 GADK, first immersive digital arts gallery in Albania, where innovation meets artistic expression. This Gallery is founded and directed by Arbri Malile since December 23, 2023 as a testament to our commitment to bringing unique artistic projects to life.

🇪🇺 Minus art space is a space founded by an artist in 2022. Its aim since the beginning was in discovering and supporting young professionals and emerging artists of the Albanian scene.

Pararoja
🇪🇺 Pararoja is an independent publishing house founded in 2020 by Olson Lamaj in response to the need to promote visual artists’ stories in the form of fanzines. Each issue of the magazine is dedicated to a contemporary artist who shares their investigation of a particular visual history that they have been researching. The zines that Pararoja produces are made in a limited quantity and printed with photocopies. The project aims to explore the alternative editorial possibilities offered by the artist’s book, fanzines, posters, and other self-produced art materials.

Prag Space Collective
🇪🇺 Prag Space Collective is a curatorial group co-founded in 2024 by Grejsi Rudi, Klaudia Fagu and Pediona Dautaj. Composed of three young creatives, this collective is dedicated to fostering the exchange of ideas, sharing experiences, and creating dialogue within the context of contemporary art. Focused on supporting emerging artists and promoting experimental practices, Prag Space Collective works across a range of media, from digital art and immersive installations to site-specific interventions in public spaces. Their curatorial approach explores themes such as urban transformation, collective memory, and the cultural and social dynamics of the Balkans.

The first edition of the residency features artists currently living in Albania: Samela Balazi, Renid Tosuni, Jozefina Vokrri, Xhulian Millaj, Erald Nezaj, Elsaida Musiq, Erjon Baculi, Pediona Dautaj, Elsamina Musiq.
